Oversharing is the process of giving too many details about your private life — your health, your family fight, your dating life — so that the people listening feel awkward or embarrassed. The word grew up with social media and group chats. Younger people use it all the time. It can name the habit (“that's oversharing”), and it is also the -ing of the verb overshare. There is no sharp line. One friend calls it honesty; another calls it oversharing. Though actually, the complaint is often about the listener's comfort, not a grammar rule. Telling a close friend something real in private is not the same as putting those facts where a whole class, or the whole internet, can copy them.
