Overpopulation is the state of having too many people in a place for what that place can support — space, food, water, houses, schools, jobs. It is the noun; is the adjective. You will meet it in geography, news, and arguments about cities or the whole earth. Though actually, it is a fighting word as much as a counting word. Two people can look at the same city: one says overpopulation, the other says “we need better buses, not fewer people.” So the word names a problem, but people do not always agree the problem is “too many people” rather than “too little planning.” It is not a word for a party that is simply full; keep it for places and living systems under strain.
