If you are overdressed, the clothes you have on are too formal for where you are. You already dressed; the result is too much for the occasion. A tuxedo at a casual birthday, shiny heels on a country walk — that is overdressed. This is the form people actually use most: 'I feel overdressed.' It is an adjective (and the past of ).
