Overacting is that too-big acting itself — the extra tears, the wild moves, the voice that fills the room when a quiet one would have been stronger. It is the -ing form and the noun that belong with , and it carries the same : people say it when they do not like the performance. You can talk about a piece of overacting in a film, or say someone is overacting tonight. Same world as : stage, screen, and sometimes everyday drama that looks put on.
