Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into shapes — birds, flowers, boxes, animals — usually from one square sheet, and usually without cutting or glue. The famous paper crane is origami. In class it can look like play, but the careful side has strict folds and can make very fine models. People use it to make something pretty with almost no tools, to calm down, or to see shapes in geometry. Though actually, some modern folders do allow cuts or extra pieces; the no-scissors rule is the classic way, not the only way people fold now. The word is used for the art and for a thing you have made: an origami frog.
