When English speakers say Oprah, they often mean the famous US afternoon talk show hosted by Oprah Winfrey, not only the woman herself. For years it was the show people pictured when they thought of daytime television. Guests sat in front of millions and talked about very private things: family pain, love, sex, mistakes, secrets they had kept for a long time. That style is called confessional TV — television where people 'confess' their lives in public, the way some people once did only in a quiet room with someone they trusted. The show could feel warm and kind, and it also pulled those stories into the light; some viewers loved the honesty, and some felt it went too far. Her first name became so famous that Oprah can stand for that whole way of talking on television.
組成From the name of Oprah Winfrey, a very famous talk-show host. She was originally named Orpah, after a woman in the Bible; two sounds in the name swapped places (metathesis), and Oprah is the form that stayed. It does not split into English pieces.
