Opera comes from Italian opera 'a work, a composition,' from Latin opera 'work, effort' — historically the plural of opus 'a work.' So an opera is literally 'a made work' — here, a musical one you sit and watch.
opera 來自義大利文 opera「一件作品、一部創作」，再往上是拉丁文 opera「工作、成果」，也就是 opus「作品」的複數。所以一齣 opera 字面上就是「一件被做出來的作品」——在這裡，是一件你坐下來欣賞的音樂作品。
