Oomph is the extra life in something — the energy that makes it attractive and . A song with oomph has punch; a talk without oomph feels flat; a poster with oomph makes people stop. It is informal and a little old in a cheerful way. Though actually, it first also pointed at the spark that makes a person attractive, and some older speakers still hear that. Today most people just mean zip, force, a bit of kick. You cannot count it, and you do not use it in formal writing. It comes from the sound itself — a noise that feels like a push.
