Onomatopoeic is the adjective for onomatopoeia. You use it when you want to call a word, a sound, or a style by that idea: boom is an onomatopoeic word; a comic may be full of onomatopoeic noise-words. The meaning is the same trick as the noun — a word that sounds like the thing it is talking about — but the grammar is different. You cannot say "Boom is onomatopoeic-ness" in ordinary English; you say it is onomatopoeic, or it is an example of onomatopoeia. It is a school-and-books word, not a café word. Same long shape; same stress near the end: on-uh-mat-uh-PEE-ik.

組成onomatopoeia + -ic (the usual adjective ending, from Latin -icus). The Greek pieces are still ὄνομα ("name") and ποιέω ("to make").
