If a politician is on-message, they keep saying what their party wants said. They stay on the same few ideas and the same phrases, especially when a journalist tries to pull them somewhere else. The phrase is a little : it often hints that the person is not really thinking, just repeating the line.

If a politician如果一位政治人物 is on-message,they他 keep saying就是一直說 their party他的政黨 wants said想要人講的話。They他們 stay on守著 the same few ideas同樣那幾個想法 and the same phrases和同樣那幾句話,especially尤其 when a journalist當記者 tries to pull them想把他們拉到 somewhere else別的地方時。The phrase這個說法 is a little unkind有點不客氣:it它 often hints常常暗示 that the person那個人 is not really thinking沒有真的在思考,just repeating the line只是在重複那套說詞。

The opposite is off-message — they said something the party did not want said, and now there is trouble.

The opposite相反詞 is是 off-message——they said他們說了 the party did not want said黨不想被說出來的 something話,and now there is trouble現在麻煩來了。

You hear this in news about elections and government, mostly British and American English. It is political talk, not kitchen talk.

in news about elections and government在選舉和政府的新聞裡 You hear this你會聽到它,mostly大多是 British and American English英式和美式英語。It它 is political talk是政治圈的話,not kitchen talk不是廚房裡的家常話。

Though actually, companies sometimes stretch it too: they want staff on-message with the brand. Same idea — stick to the script.

Though actually不過其實,companies公司 sometimes有時 stretch it too也把它拿來延伸:they他們 want staff要員工 with the brand跟品牌 on-message口徑一致。Same idea同一個概念——stick to the script照著稿子講。
