    Oink is the sound we write down for a pig. It is not a word built from older pieces; people just copied the noise. You see it in comics, children's books, and when someone is playing: Oink oink! Pigs in other languages get other spellings, so oink is simply the English way of catching that grunt. You can also use it as a verb: the pig oinked. As a noun: a loud oink. Grown-ups sometimes use it in a teasing or rude way about a person eating greedily; that use can sting, so it is not a kind joke in class.
