Off-white is a white colour that is not pure white. It has a little yellow or grey in it, so it looks softer, creamier, or slightly dusty. People use it for paint, cloth, paper, walls, and wedding dresses. Designers like it because hard white can feel cold or like a hospital; off-white feels warmer. It is a real colour name, not a mistake and not “dirty white,” though a very grey off-white can look tired. You can use it as an adjective (off-white walls) or as a noun (the walls are an off-white). There is no sharp line where white ends and off-white begins — shops just pick a name that sounds nice.
