If you consider something objectively, you try to look at the facts and not let your own feelings, wishes, or side pull you. Scientists, judges, and reporters are told to do this. Though actually, nobody stands fully outside themselves; when people say they are being objective, they often mean they are trying, or they want you to trust them. The word is common in school and in the news. The usual partner is subjectively — from your own inner view. A very common mix-up: objectively has nothing to do, in meaning, with ‘I object’ (I am against this). On the page, objective and objection sit in a pile of object- words, and that pile is historically related; but the job of objectively here is the opposite of subjectively, not a cousin of complaint.
