A nutcracker is a small tool for breaking the hard shell of a nut so you can eat the inside. The common kind is two metal arms with a hinge: you put the nut between them and squeeze. People often say nutcrackers in the plural even for one tool, like scissors. There is also a famous ballet called The Nutcracker, named after a toy that looks like a little man who cracks nuts with his mouth — but in this sense the word is the tool itself.
