A nuncio is the Pope’s official representative in another country — the Vatican’s diplomat. He is not a tourist priest and not simply “any Catholic bishop abroad.” A nuncio lives in that country, speaks for the Holy See to the government, and also reports back to Rome. In rank he is treated much like an ambassador. The full title you will see is apostolic nuncio. The word belongs to church and diplomatic English; ordinary people rarely need it unless they are reading the news about the Vatican. It is always about the Pope’s envoy, not a messenger for a king or a company.
