The NUJ is a British trade union for people who work with news and books: journalists on newspapers and magazines, and people in book production. A union here is a group of workers who join together so they can speak with one voice about pay, safety, and how they are treated. The NUJ is not a world body and not a Taiwan union; it belongs to the UK. You will see the letters far more often than the full name. Members pay fees, and the union can speak for them if a paper treats them badly, or if the work puts them at risk.
