A nova is a star that suddenly shines much, much brighter for a while, then again. For a short time it can look like a “new” star in the night sky, which is why it got this name. It is not the same as a : a is a huge explosion that can tear a star apart; a nova is a flare, and the star is still there afterwards. This is an ’s word, and it is also the usual word in science news. Though actually you will meet Nova as a name for cars, computers, and shops; those only borrow the “new and bright” feel. 組成From Latin nova, the feminine form of novus, “new”. The feminine is used because Latin stella, “star”, is feminine, so the phrase was nova stella, “new star”. Tycho Brahe used it in this sense in 1573. English then shortened it to nova.
