A notspot is a place where your phone or your internet will not connect. You cannot get broadband, or a mobile signal, or wi-fi. The word is a joke built from hotspot: a hotspot is where the signal is strong, and a notspot is where it is not. You will mostly meet it in British newspapers and official talk about villages, trains, and the countryside. It is not a word most families use at dinner. Though actually, in everyday life people more often say “there’s no signal” or “the wifi is dead.” Notspot is the tidy label for the same problem, especially when you mean a whole area that has been left behind.
