- 1
A nonprofit is an organization that does not exist to make money for owners or shareholders. Any money it earns goes back into the organization's work, like helping people, protecting the environment, or education, instead of being paid out as profit. You'll see it used both as a noun, 'she works for a nonprofit,' and as an adjective, 'a nonprofit organization'.
