A nonebrity is someone famous without having done much that lasts — famous for being seen, not for a craft, a prize, or a public job well done. Magazines and writers use it; it is a joke-word, not a kind one. It sits next to celebrity and is meant to sting: the fame is there, the achievement is thin. You will not find it in careful school essays as a neutral term. Though actually, who 'counts' as having achieved something is a fight people have in public; the word takes a side. It is newer and looser than nonentity: a nonebrity is known, a nonentity is not.
