Non-toxic means not poisonous — it should not harm your body in the ordinary way people worry about. You see it on toys, paint, markers, cleaning products, and garden stuff: the label is telling buyers, often parents, that this should be safe to have around. Though actually, the tidy picture (“not a poison”) is tidier than real labels. Non-toxic often means “not toxic in the dose and use they tested,” not “eat this” or “breathe this all day with no problem.” A plant can be non-toxic to people and still be a bad idea for a pet, and the other way round. In looser talk, especially online, toxic has also come to mean “a person or place that poisons your mood,” so non-toxic sometimes gets borrowed for “not nasty, not full of drama.” That is a stretch from the chemistry meaning, and not everyone likes it.
