Non-cooperation is when you will not do what someone in power tells you to do — not because you forgot, and not because you are lazy, but because you are saying no on purpose. It is often a kind of protest: workers may refuse to follow a new rule; people in a country may refuse to help a government they think is unfair. The point is usually not violence. The point is to stop the usual machine from running until the other side has to listen. You will meet this word in history and in the news, in a fairly serious register; it is heavier than just “not helping a friend.” Though actually, in everyday talk people sometimes stretch it to any stubborn “I won’t play along,” which is looser than the political sense.
non-cooperation 指你故意不照當權者的要求去做。不是忘記了，也不是懶，而是很明確地說不。它常常是一種抗議的方式：工人可能拒絕執行新規定，人民可能拒絕協助一個他們覺得不公平的政府。
這種抗議的重點通常不是暴力，而是讓原本運作的機器停下來，逼對方不得不聽。這個字多出現在歷史和新聞裡，語氣比較嚴肅，比單純「不幫朋友的忙」重得多。
不過日常說話中，有人也會把它用來形容任何固執的「我不陪你玩」，意思比政治上的用法寬鬆。
