    In British informal English, a nob is a rich person high up in society — someone with money, class, and the manner that goes with it. People say “the nobs” for that whole group at the top. The tone is cheeky more than kind: you are pointing at class, not praising it. It sounds a little old-fashioned now, and you will barely hear it in American English. Do not put it in a formal letter. Though actually, it is not the same as snob. A snob looks down on people; a nob is simply one of the people at the top, wig and all, in the old joke.
