A no-show is a person who was expected to be somewhere — a restaurant table, a meeting, a class, a flight — and then simply does not arrive. The seat stays empty. People also use it for the event itself: “We had three no-shows tonight” means three people never came. It is everyday English in shops, hotels, hospitals, and offices; not rude, but it is not a compliment either. Though actually, if you cancel in time you are not a no-show. The word is for the person who was counted on and never appeared, often without a call. In casual American talk some people even turn it into a verb: “He no-showed.”
