A no-no is a thing you must not do — not always because it is against the law, but because people around you will think it is wrong, rude, or stupid. Wearing white to someone else's wedding can be a no-no. Asking how much a person earns can be a no-no. It is informal and a bit playful; adults say it to children and to each other. You will hear that's a no-no or a big no-no. It names the act, not the person. The doubled no feels like a wagging finger, but it is lighter than forbidden. Though actually, a no-no is often only a social rule. Break it and people may ; you may not be in trouble with the police.
no-no 指的是不能做的事。它不一定違法，而是周圍的人會覺得不對、沒禮貌或很蠢，所以大家都會避開。例如「Wearing white to someone else's wedding can be a no-no.」（穿白色去別人的婚禮，可能就是大忌。）常見的說法是 that's a no-no 或 a big no-no，前面加 big 就更強。它指的是那件事，不是那個人。
