Nintendo is a Japanese company, and also the name people use for its game machines. You use the machine to play video games on a television, or you hold a small one in your hands. The company is famous for games like Mario, and for machines such as the Game Boy, the DS, the Wii, and later the Switch. In everyday talk someone may say “Have you got a Nintendo?” meaning one of those machines. Though actually Nintendo is a brand name, not a general word for every game box — a PlayStation or an Xbox is not a Nintendo. We write it with a capital N.

組成Borrowed from Japanese 任天堂 (Nintendō): 任 “leave to / entrust,” 天 “heaven,” 堂 “hall.” The company name is understood as “leave fortune to heaven.”
