A ninny is a silly person — someone who does a foolish little thing, not someone cruel or dangerous. It is a soft, old-fashioned word, a bit like what a kind adult says to a child: “Don't be a ninny.” It is milder than idiot, and much milder than the rude words students sometimes hear. You will meet it in older stories more than in young people's talk today. It can sound fond, or a little , but it is not a serious attack.

組成Unknown. The close word ninnyhammer appears around the same time. It may be related to innocent, or to Italian ninno, “small child,” but that is only a possibility.
