If something is nightly, it happens every night, not just once at night. A nightly news programme is on each evening; a nightly walk is a walk you take night after night. The word can sit in front of a noun (a nightly show) or after a verb (the show is performed nightly). Though actually, in everyday speech many people just say every night, which is often clearer. Nightly is a little more compact and a little more “schedule-like” — the kind of word you see on a TV listing or a hotel sign (nightly rate: the price for each night). Do not mix it up with overnight (from one day into the next, through the night) or with nocturnal (active at night, often used for animals). Nightly answers “how often?”: every night.
