The NFU is the National Farmers’ Union, a large British organization that speaks for farmers. It is not the government. It argues about farm policy, prices, animal rules, and help after floods or disease, and British newspapers have quoted it for a very long time. The usual full name has Farmers’ with an apostrophe — the union of farmers — though you will also see National Farmers Union without it. You meet NFU in UK news and politics, not as a worldwide everyday word. Taiwan’s 農會 is a similar kind of farmers’ group, but NFU names the British one, not yours.
