A newsreader is the person who reads the news out loud on television or on the radio — the face or the voice of the programme. In British English this is the normal word; Americans more often say news anchor. It sounds as if the job is only reading, though actually a good newsreader also has to keep a steady voice when the news is sad or sudden, and they are not always the person who went out and found the story. That person is a reporter. A newsreader sits in the studio, or behind a microphone, and tells you what has been checked and written up. Do not use it for someone sitting on the sofa with a paper.
