- 1
Newlyweds are two people who have recently married — a husband and wife, and in real life whoever just came back from the wedding. This plural is the form you will hear most: “The newlyweds are on honeymoon.” It treats the two as a pair, the way a couple does. You would not say a newlyweds. If you need one person, is the word. The feeling is warm and a little public: family, neighbours, and magazines talking about the new marriage.
