In British English, nett is another spelling of net when it means “what is left after you take things away”: nett profit (money left after costs), nett weight (the weight of the thing itself, not the box), nett pay (what you actually take home). American English almost always net for this. The extra t, in older British use, helps keep this meaning apart from net the mesh — the fishing net, the tennis net. You still see nett on some British packets and in older business writing; many British writers now just use net. It is not a different word, only a spelling. (The same letters also appear as a surname, from German Nett, related to an old French word for “clean,” or as an Irish variant of McNett — that is a person’s name, not this sense.)
