Netball is a team ball game that looks a little like basketball, but it is its own sport. It grew in Britain, and it is still especially big in British and Commonwealth schools — countries with old ties to Britain — often played by girls and women, though men play it too. You score by throwing the ball through a high ring with a net. There is no board behind the ring, which is one reason a basketball player cannot simply switch without learning new habits. The other big differences: you may not run with the ball, and you may not bounce it along as in basketball (no dribbling). When you catch it, you stop, and you pass. The seven players on a team have positions, and each position is only allowed in certain parts of the court. So the game is about passing into space, not about one person driving to the hoop. In Taiwan the sport is much less common than basketball, so if someone says netball they usually mean this British-style game, not “any game with a net and a ball.” Volleyball also has a net; that is a different sport again.
組成net + ball: a ball game whose goal is a net. Built the same way as football or basketball, only the first piece names the net you throw into.
