A nebula is a huge cloud of gas and dust out in space, between the stars. Some nebulas are places where new stars are being born; others are the leftover material from a star that has died. In photos, nebulas often look like beautiful clouds of colored light, which is why pictures of them show up a lot in space movies and posters. This is mostly a science word - you'll meet it in astronomy, not in daily conversation.
