NC is the short written form of North Carolina, a state on the east coast of the United States. You see it on letters, maps, lists of states, and sometimes on sports shirts. People usually say the full name when they talk; they write NC when they need it short. In Taiwan, news and students often say 北卡 for the same place. Always write both letters in capitals. Though actually, NC can mean other things in other kinds of writing (for example, “no comment”). If it sits next to a city name or a postal code, it is the state.
