Napoleon Bonaparte (1769–1821) was the emperor of France from 1804 to 1815. He was a great and very army leader. His armies took control of many countries in Europe, and those countries became part of his empire. His biggest failure was in 1812, when he attacked Russia: most of the men in his army died from cold and hunger on the way back to France. In 1815 he was finally beaten at Waterloo (in what is now Belgium) and was sent to a far island, where he later died. In English, people sometimes stretch the name: a Napoleon of finance means a hugely ambitious, commanding person in that field — sometimes , sometimes a bit sharp. It is a person’s name, so it takes a capital N. You may also meet napoleon as the name of a layered cream cake; that use comes from the same famous name, but this entry is about the man.
組成From French Napoléon, from Italian Napoleone, the name of an early saint. The deeper origin is uncertain; it may come from the Germanic clan name Nibelung. A popular story says Napoli (Naples) + leone (lion), but that is a folk story people like, not a sure history.
