Nantucket is an island in the sea, off the coast of Massachusetts in the north-east of the United States. Long ago it was a busy port. Ships left from there to hunt whales, and that work made some families rich. The whale ships later stopped. Today people go to Nantucket for holidays, and many rich families keep summer homes there. When Americans say someone has a house on Nantucket, they often mean that person has a lot of money — the island stands in people's minds for a rich, quiet summer place. It is a place name, so we write it with a capital N. People who live there all year and the rich visitors who come only in summer are not always the same group.
組成A name from the Massachusett language (old forms include Natocke, Nantican, Nautican), roughly “in the middle of waters.” It does not split into English pieces.
