Nairobi is the capital and largest city of Kenya, a country in East Africa. It has several million people and is one of the main business, transport and diplomatic centres of the whole region — many international organisations, including United Nations offices, have their African bases there, and its airport is a major hub for flights across Africa. The city sits high up, around 1,700 metres above sea level, so although Kenya is on the equator, Nairobi is cool and often rainy rather than baking hot; visitors are frequently surprised by this. It is also unusual for having a national park with wild animals right on the edge of the city. Like any big city it has both wealthy districts and very poor ones. As a place name it is always capitalised and takes no article — you say in Nairobi, not in the Nairobi.
