MySpace is a website that began in 2003. You made a page that was yours: photos, a little about you, a list of friends, and often a song that started when someone opened the page. For a few years it was the main place young people went to be seen on the internet. Then Facebook grew, and most users left. Though actually the site never fully died; it just became small and easy to forget. People who were teenagers then still say the name with a mix of love and a laugh — the pages were busy, shiny, and a bit messy. You may also hear MySpace as a verb from that time, meaning to look someone up or write to them on the site, but almost nobody uses that verb now. Today the word is mostly a time-stamp: it points to that early social web, not to a tool students still open every day.
