A mutant is a living thing — a plant, animal, or even a cell — that is different from normal because of a change in its genes, its mutation. In real science, most mutants are just slightly different, not dangerous. But in movies and comics, 'mutant' usually means a creature or person changed in a big, often powerful or scary way, like superheroes with mutant powers.
