A muso is someone in the popular-music world: a player, a bandmate, or a person who lives in that scene and knows it well. It is informal British and Australian talk; Americans almost never say it. Among players it is ordinary, like calling a journalist a journo — short, matey, in-group. It can sound warm, as if you belong. It can also sound a little throwaway, as if the work is not quite serious. You would not put it on a poster or in a job letter. Though actually, that is the point: it belongs to speech between people who already share the scene, not to careful writing.
