- 1
A muskmelon is a sweet melon. The name joins musk (a strong, warm smell, once famous from perfume) and melon, because ripe fruit of this kind can smell rich and sweet. The family includes the orange cantaloupe many shops sell, and also honeydew. The skin is often netted like a little net; the inside may be orange or green. In everyday English, people often just say melon or cantaloupe and never say muskmelon. You are more likely to see it on a farm label or in a science book. Though actually, a watermelon is a different plant — both are sweet summer fruit, but watermelon is not a muskmelon.
香瓜、甜瓜(台灣口語多說香瓜;哈密瓜是其中一種,不是西瓜)
