Muscadet is a dry white wine from western France, around Nantes, where the Loire river meets the sea. Dry here means not sweet: it tastes light and crisp, and people often drink it with seafood, especially oysters. In English we keep the French name and treat it as a wine style. Though actually the word looks and sounds close to muscat, Muscadet is not a muscat wine and is not made from muscat grapes — the grape is Melon de Bourgogne, and the wine is dry, not the sweet muscat style. Wine lists usually leave the name in French. English borrowed the word from French muscadet.
