In informal British (and some Australian) talk, a munter is a very rude word for someone you think is ugly, most often a woman. It is crude and — students should recognise it if they hear it, but not use it. It belongs to late-1990s slang, in the same rough group as munted, meaning drunk, wrecked, or disgusting. Though actually, school English and careful news almost never say it except to report the insult. It is not a mild joke.

組成Late 1990s slang, probably from munt (to vomit) and munted (drunk; disgusting) + -er. A link to Turkish mantar (mushroom) is only a maybe, so we leave it aside.
