Munich is a large industrial city in the south of Germany. It is the capital of . The German name is München; English uses Munich, probably taken in through French, as with some other city names. People know it for its attractive old buildings and for the big beer festival held there every October (Oktoberfest). In everyday English the name is said roughly MYOO-nik, not with the German ü. Though actually, it is a place name, not a common noun — you write it with a capital letter.
