Multiskilling is when someone is trained to do several different jobs inside the same company, so they can move from one role to another as the day needs. A shop worker who can run the till, stock shelves, and cover the phone is the idea. It is workplace English, used by managers and HR more than by students; you hear it more in British and Australian work talk than in casual American speech, where people often say cross-training instead. Though actually, workers do not always love it: it can mean “we pay you for one job, but we expect three.” It is not multitasking. Multitasking is doing several things in the same minutes. Multiskilling is being trained for several roles over time.
