A multiplier is something that multiplies — makes an effect bigger or repeats it many times. In math, the multiplier is the number you multiply another number by. In economics, 'the multiplier effect' describes how one dollar spent can cause much more than a dollar's worth of economic activity, because that money keeps getting spent again by other people. In games, a 'multiplier' often means a bonus that multiplies your score, like 'a 2x multiplier.'
