Muddled means confused, mixed up, not clear. Your thoughts can be muddled; an explanation can be muddled if it jumps around; a person can feel muddled after too many instructions. It is softer and politer than a sharp word like confused: I'm a bit muddled is an easy way to ask someone to slow down. You will hear it more in British English. Though actually, do not mix it up with muddy, which means covered in wet earth — they look like cousins on the page, but they are not the same idea.
