A mozzie is a mosquito — the small flying insect that bites you and leaves an itchy bump. This is friendly, informal English, not a biology-class word. You will hear it a lot in Australia and New Zealand; some people in Britain use it too. Americans usually say mosquito, or sometimes skeeter. People talk about mozzie spray, a mozzie net, or “the mozzies are bad tonight.” It is not rude; it is just casual. You may also see the spelling mossie.
