Mowing is the act of cutting grass, hay, or a lawn, usually with a machine called a mower, or in the past, with a hand tool called a scythe. 'Mowing the lawn' is a very common household . As a noun, in farming, a 'mowing' can also mean a field of grass that is grown specifically to be cut for hay.
